We are a truly fortunate community and I thank all of you who continue to make all things possible at Ferrum.įerrum Magazine is a publication of the Ferrum College Alumni and Family Services Office. It is truly humbling for me to realize that not one of these significant events would have occurred without the vision of the United Methodist Women of the Virginia Annual Conference, the commitment and dedication of our Ferrum College faculty and staff, the enthusiasm and hard work of our students, the generosity and support of our Ferrum College alumni and friends, and uppermost, the blessings of our Lord, from whom all good things come. More about Paul Harris in this issue as well as other successful alumni who are also featured. Harris '65 is the first alumnus in College history to become chair of our Board of Trustees, and we have a total of twelve alumni serving at this time on the Board. The achievements of our incredible alumni continue to make Ferrum proud. Ferrum's first-ever adult degree completion program was officially launched this semester at the Roanoke Higher Education center, a significant event in Ferrum history, and the Virginia Center for Criminal Justice Studies at Ferrum College is another major initiative that has come to fruition this fall, helping to raise awareness of Ferrum in the law enforcement community throughout the region and the state. Bids have been solicited for construction on two new residence halls and the renovation and refurbishing of several historic buildings as well as Franklin Hall. The USDAfunded building initiative that was introduced to you in the spring 2004 issue of FM now has a name, “Ferrum PLUS!” (Project Leading to Undergraduate Success). Several notable milestones are featured in these pages. The Ferrum College football program is in its 50th year, and our student newspaper, the Iron Blade, will mark its 50th year of publication in the spring. Twenty-fifth anniversary congratulations are in order for our acclaimed Blue Ridge Dinner Theatre. Nniversaries, milestones and achievements! We have devoted this Winter 2004 issue of FM to the celebration of those things that are at the very heart of the Ferrum CollegeĮxperience - our extraordinary programs, initiatives, and most of all, people.
